Video baby monitor is the latest kind of the baby monitor. However, the technology being developed isn’t very good yet in my opinion, plus they are expensive. Unless you are really the “visual” kind of person, I suggest you splurge the cash for a good DECT baby monitor instead.

Anyway, here are few video baby monitors selling in the market:

I have this monitor. Actually, this is my 2nd one. They’re terrible. The volume dial gets loose and the volume fades in and out between too quiet and too loud. The video screen has stopped working on both of the ones I owned (that’s actually the reason we bought the 2nd one). I’m on the hunt for a better monitor.

Hi Kirsty, thanks for sharing, you mean which one? Summer Infant Day&Night or Summer Infant Quiet Sound Color Handheld?

Currently I only manage to review these 2 products in my video baby monitor reviews category. Anyway, I don’t think the video baby monitors technology are that ready yet but it seem helpful for some parent. Well, I will try to review more video baby monitors and I”m sure there are some best one out there:)

I have the video monitor – the Summer non-remote one – and I don’t care what I “look” like to other parents (re: your “paranoid” comment). As the parent of a 3 1/2 year old who was a terrible sleeper, it was very handy to be able to see when she was awake – but not crying – or actually asleep -and what was going on in her crib. I would never have a sound only monitor given the chance to easily see what was going on. I don’t call that paranoid, I call that good parenting.

Have you tested or know much about the Safety 1st Hi-Def color video monitor? It is pretty pricy but since I am having my last child (#2) I’d like to know what she is doing in her crib without being in the room.

I also had a son who had a difficult time sleeping. The video monitors have given me the peace of mind in knowing that he is safe. He is 2 years old and tried to climb out of his crib, I was able to get up there in time before he could hurt himself.
I have never used the portable video monitor, but I have used the stationary model. My only complaint is the volume levels fluctuate, mainly becoming way to loud, and there is no way to turn it down.
