Graco Ultra Clear II – Best Budget Analog Baby Monitor
When I first gave birth, I thought that I’d be satisfied with the most basic of features in a baby monitor. After all, I didn’t know then that there was so much more to look for in baby monitors other than just being able to hear my baby cry while I was in another room. When I bought this Graco, I was quite happy to see two receivers in the box. If my hands are floury in the kitchen and my husband is in his study, he could go look at what our son was up to because we each have a receiver. When I upgraded to the iMonitor (also from Graco, by the way), I had to pay more to purchase two receivers.

Channels and static
However, it was staticky because there were only two channels to choose from, this being an analog baby monitor running on 49MHz. So, even if Graco says that it’s called the Ultra Clear II, don’t fully believe what it says! It took some getting used to, sound-wise, because my husband and I are both audiophiles who are quite picky about sound and cannot stand noise. Static to us, is noise. (Do you see now why the hubby didn’t mind paying for the upgrade?
)
Reaching the scene ASAP
We could hear our son fine once we got used to the level of background noise, however. Some people recommend lowering the volume of the receivers to reduce the static, but that didn’t really work for us because we like to be there ASAP the minute our son makes any amount of noise. Call me paranoid, but isn’t that what baby monitors were invented for?
I’m glad I upgraded to the Graco iMonitor simply because of the background noise, which I couldn’t stand, but for parents who really want a cheap solution or an additional baby monitor to use when traveling, I’d say that the Graco Ultra Clear II is a good bet!

My wife and I really hated the iMonitor – too staticky and wouldn’t hold a signal — we returned it and bought a Baby Sounds AngelCare. And it was cheaper at $130. Pass it on….
